IPMA is an international umbrella organisation for national project management associations from over 40 countries worldwide. We represent our members on the international level.

IPMA plays a leading role in the development and promotion of the project management profession and provides standards and guidelines for the work of project management personnel through the IPMA Compentence Baseline (ICB). Our four- level project management certification program is world-leading and widely recognized for its quality.

Our ambition is to lead the development and promotion of the project management profession and to make more organisations realise the benefits of project management.

How can I/we become a member of IPMA?

There are three types of IPMA membership; National Association Membership, individual membership and corporate membership. Information about application and entry criteria can be found under Join IPMA.

Where can I find information about the IPMA Four- Level Certification Program?

General certification information can be found here. The standards of the Certification Program are specified in the IPMA Competence Baseline.

How do I get certified?

The Certification Program is carried out by National Member Associations and/or Certification Bodies in membership countries. If you have questions regarding training and certification in your country, please contact your Member Association. If there is no Member Association in your country you are welcome to contact any of the Member Associations. All Member association are prepared to guide foreign project managers in their education towards the IPMA certificates. 

Which are the standards for project management?

IPMA does not provide specific standards for project management processes, as there are as many different processes as there are needs. However, thre is a more uniform understanding of the required COMPETENCES, therefore IPMA has developed a standard on project management competences called ICB. The IPMA Competence Baseline (ICB) serves as a basis for our four level certification program.
