Since 2010 the applicants for the IPMA International Project Excellence Award have the possibility to apply in three Award categories: Project Excellence in Medium-Sized Projects, Project Excellence in Big-Sized Projects and Project Excellence in Mega-Sized Projects based on the set of criteria presented below:

This categorisation was implemented to allow projects of “different size and nature” to compete amongst each other in their specific category. The idea is to foster an optimised selection and Award process, e.g. that projects which are not so large do not compete in the category of very large projects. The basis for the assessment and the output expectations from the Assessors have not been changed. It is the applicant who decides in which category the application project is. The Award Jury will decide on the level position of each project in the three Award categories during the annual IPMA Award contests.
